Rwandan coffee has been increasing in quality and popularity steadily over the past decade, and the Gatare washing station has always been at the forefront of that movement. When it opened in 2003, Gatare was one of the only places in the country to process specialty coffee. Now there are other specialty producers in the region, but Gatare is still one of the best and we're really excited to bring their coffee to you!
Gatare Lot 5 is a bright cup, exhibiting some of the tried-and-true qualities of specialty coffee that we love. A green grape flavor lends this coffee a good blend of sweetness and tartness, while a citrus note provides some acidity and a nice juicy body. There's a small hint of vanilla at play as well, smoothing out the flavor profile and giving this coffee a delightful aftertaste. We found ourselves brewing a second cup of this one, and we think you will too!

Good flavor
Good flavor and smell. A tinge too fruity for me, but still good and will enjoy drinking it!

Great coffee!
I’m pretty on the fence with most Rwanda coffees but this blew my mind. It’s like drinking dessert for breakfast!

So dang good
So full, so delicious. Making it with an AeroPress, the vanilla flavor is most apparent to me. Also my favorite since the Kanzu.

Great taste and felt like low acidity
This stuff was way mellower than the verana Starbucks I had to get between shipments.

Wow - what a way to start drinking good coffee
Great nose and intense taste - As this is my first complete shipment of quality coffee it's so much more intense than the Starbucks I'd been drinking. Very complex and wonderful...

Good Coffee
Here's what I find interesting with regard to coffee - my first subscription coffee was Kanzu Lot 19 from Rwanda that I did not enjoy. This batch of coffee is also from Rwanda yet I liked it so much better than the Kanzu Lot 19 coffee. I think this goes to show one should not judge an entire coffee region based on one particular grower or coffee type.

Too Fruity and Bright for Me
My wife loved this coffee, but she loves this type of coffee with a lot of fruity, bright, muscatel notes in it. I didn't like it for those reasons, but if you enjoy those types of tasting notes, then you'd probably enjoy this coffee. Not my own personal taste, however, and if you prefer a smoother, more full-bodied cup, then I would recommend a different coffee.

hmmm.
This one is smooth and balanced as ever, but just didn't wow me as most moustache coffees do. I think it was the combo of grape and vanilla notes that just sat oddly on my palate.
