Description

Variety: SL28, SL34

Processing: Washed

Origin: Nyeri, Kenya

Producers: Baragwi Cooperative Society

Altitude: 1800m

The Nyeri region in Kenya is a hotbed of specialty coffee production, so it only makes sense that we'd find multiple lots from the Karindundu factory that completely blew us away. This washed AA lot was processed and then dried on African beds over 21 days, painstakingly spread out and covered during peak sunlight each day to ensure even moisture content bean-to-bean. The small-holders from the Baragwi cooperative trust the Karindundu factory to bring the best out of their crop with their exacting processing standards, and we couldn't be happier with the result. Karindundu 256 is a lot that you simply don't want to miss.

The lead flavor at play in this cup is a strong passion fruit note, both citrusy and sharp with a touch of sweetness. A strong bergamot note is also present, lending the cup a sophisticated, almost tea-like quality. And we certainly can't forget the over-the-top florals that fill out the flavor profile, giving this coffee a great aroma and plenty of depth. It's a joy to taste coffee that's been so expertly grown and processed, we hope you take a moment to enjoy it!

Very Drinkable Coffee

I am a fan of the simple, sweet and floral coffees already. I like the cup to taste the same the entire time I drink it. This coffee gave me exactly what I like in a cup of coffee. Very drinkable, even on a hot Florida afternoon. Subtle floral notes with a solid sweetness through out. Got it on Saturday and it's already gone on Monday! Was that tasty.

Not sure how you prepared it, but I think the sweetness really holds up when it's iced as well, so long as you use the Japanese method or cool it straight away after brewing.

It’s like a very strong man carrying you all the way up Mount Kilimanjaro, and at the summit he releases you into the wings of angels that take you to heaven.

Solid.

Delicious

Vibrant, flavorful coffee. I’m a fan of African coffees and this one was one of the best. I think it was a little better as a pour over than a French press, but it was tasty in both methods.

Very satisfying coffee. The flavor notes are definitely on point in the description. It’s a nice medley in your mouth to start the morning.

Clean, approachable and very sweet.

This Nyeri coffee isn't as "in-your-face" with its acidity. I was expecting a bit more, because I gravitate to tart flavours in my cup. That said, this is a very approachable clean and sweet cup of coffee, especially as brewed with a V60 method. I'm still early on in my exploration with this coffee, but it's probably one of the better coffees I've received lately from MCC.

Good flavors, but..

I press my coffee everyday. I brew at 200 degrees or less, stirring after 20-25 seconds, then brew for 4-5 minutes. I keep getting a bitter flavor in this coffee. I'd probably leave less stars, but each coffee is individual, so, just left average rating. It's my second coffee, and I hope I get more "friendly" smooth coffees. Both have been very citrus flavored, and just not smooth like I prefer.

Hey Greg, thanks for the feedback, how do you grind the coffee and what ratio are you using? If you keep getting a bitter flavor, the adjustment to make is to grind more coarse (you should be pretty coarse already with a french press) or add more coffee. Check out our education section, we have an article on making adjustments to get to the perfect cup, Sean

I have a Bodum grinder and use the highest setting. 14-1 ratio. I did change the brew time and method slightly. I read a blog where this guy swore to brew for 5-6 minutes. I changed to 4 minutes. I also added half the water upfront, and then 30 seconds later, stirred and added the rest. Not bitter after the change. I’m not as much a fan of the fruity coffees. I had “occasional” checked on profile for classic but after four deliveries, I’ve yet to get one. Now I selected always.

My favourite coffee so far

This is my favourite coffee from my subscription so far. I do enjoy the sweeter coffees and the floral taste did bring it all together :)

Unexpected surprise

This was my first shipment and now have received 4 more since and the taste (memory) from this is still lingering. Coffee (pour over) was strong, smooth but not bland. There was acidity but not over powering. For me, it was a great morning coffee but maybe a bit too strong for a afternoon pick up, as I make/drink my coffee dark / black. If there are any beans left (over 2 weeks from roast date) I typically make cold brew and I think these would be great for it ... but I’m not sure if I would ever have beans left. Will def order as a separate order.
