About This Coffee
Variety: Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai
Processing: Washed
Origin: Huehuetenango, Guatemala
Producers: Gabino Mendez
Altitude: 1700m
Gabino Mendez lives on his farm Finca Aguas Altas, high in the mountains on Guatemala's border with Mexico. As the name suggests, plentiful water on Gabino's property allows him to grow a mix of Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuai varietals at high altitude. He trades coffee production tips with his brother and father, who own neighboring farms where they grow their own lots. The family shares a wet-mill so that they can process their coffees on-site, cutting out potential quality loss that can occur when coffee cherry is shipped/stored before processing. We were impressed with the intention that went into producing this coffee, and of course how incredible it tastes!
Monte Claro is a robust cup of coffee with real presence. A milk chocolate note defines the profile with its sweet flavor and silky body. Layered on top of this smooth base is a tangy stone fruit note, followed by a bit of raspberry tartness that helps tie everything together. Monte Claro is a crowd-pleaser: smooth and sweet without being too acidic or spicy. It's a great coffee to share with your friends, which is why we're sharing it with all of you. Enjoy!
