Item information

Description

Variety: Catuai

Processing: Honey

Crop Year: 2017

Origin: Tarrazu, Costa Rica

Producers: Roger Urena

Altitude: 1800m

A third-generation coffee producer, Roger Urena knows a thing or two about growing and producing premium coffees. He owns several small farms across the Tarrazu region, and uses them to experiment with different processing methods and varietals. Over the years he's become an expert at honey-processing, which pairs well with the Catuai beans he grows on his Santa Teresa farm. This lot has everything we look for in a honey coffee: bold fruit flavors and consistent sweetness. A particularly strong grape note stands out, as well as hints of berry. This light coffee is sweet from start to finish, and feels a bit like dessert in a cup. We love it, and we're excited to share it with you!

Decent

I'm typically a fan of dark roasts and this is a lighter roast. It has good flavor and it definitely has the subtle grape flavor.

Nice

This coffee has good flavor and you can definitely taste the sweetness of the honey process. Body is a tad too light.

Balanced, sweet coffee.

Smooth, balanced with lasting sweetness. Can't comment on flavor notes due to lack of a decent grinder at the moment. I tasted this coffee with some other people and we all agreed that it was splendid. It's unfortunate that my budget is only about $15 per week for coffee, otherwise I'd subscribe forever. The other reviewers probably have never heard of a French press.

Tastes like grape juice!

Super grapey and sweet! Reminds me of drinking Concord grape juice as a kid! Acidity was low, and sweetness stuck throughout my entire cup which I really appreciated. Not used to Central American coffees being this fruity and sweet! Would like to see more honey process and light roasts come out of this region.

One of the best.

Love it. Only reason I prefer Ethiopian or other African coffees over this is the distinct flavors from Africa. But besides that, this is one of my favorites.

Comfy

As I like my pillows, this coffee is light, full, and warm. Expect flavourful lumbar support with each sip.

Perfect Intro to MCC

My first batch from Moustache, wow. Blown away. Can't wait for the next type.

Good light roast

Very good flavor. Tastes more like traditional coffee than the last bag I received. Would definitely drink again!

Good light roast

I am a dark roaster prefer-er normally. I liked this. The beans smelled heavenly. After grinding I stopped again to appreciate the aroma. This morning I made enough for a second cup and felt well indulged as I finished the semester's grading. Sweet from start to finish, without being sweet (no cream or sugar for me please!).

Flavorful light roast

I tend to prefer ethiopan coffees from a French press. This is similar in that it is a flavorful light roast and requires the press to experience all of it’s subtleties.

I prefer full body roast and these beans were more than acceptable acceptable. I knew I would like it from the beans aroma. The honey flavor was made for a smooth brew.

Not usually a light roast drinker but...

This was really good! To me, it tasted like caramel corn and smelled heavily so. My guess is the honey processing. It was a really pretty color when brewed. I like it!

Not my favorite but still tasty

When I made my first batch with an Aeropress, I was slightly underwhelmed after being completely blown away by the first bag I got (kanzu lot 19). It was sweet, but a bit too light bodied for me - I generally tend to prefer African single-origins to central/south america. The next day I made it again the same way, but instead of drinking it black I added a bit of raw cream, and boy did that make a huge difference. The honey sweetness and the grape flavor stood out so much more! Ultimately, amazing, just like the last one.

Santa Teresa

Good coffee, round and sweet, but it didn't have the 'pop' that the kanzu lot 19 did. Maybe I'm just not that big a fan of honey-processing. Nonetheless, I always enjoy Moustache coffee; there's nothing quite like freshly roasted beans.

Aftertaste

Yes, light and smooth and yummy. Not my favorite (also enjoyed Kanzu Lot 19 better), but still quality.
