I am beyond excited to bring this coffee to our members. It is our first Cup of Excellence coffee in the Tasting Series. This coffee came fourth in the Cup of Excellence competition for Mexico in 2017 and was scored 90.2 points by an international jury. These coffees are extremely rare this lot is only 330 lbs and sought after the world over - most go to South Korea or Japan - so even being able to get this coffee to the US was very difficult. But it was well worth the effort. It is a truly great coffee, we've given a summary of the tasting notes here but it goes well beyond that. It is complex beyond belief with some really great flavour notes but most of all, it tastes amazing.

Here are some additional tasting notes from the Cup of Excellence jury.

Aroma/Flavor: fresh cut strawberry, jasmine, floral, blackberry, raspberry, dr pepper, cola, spiced cola, tamarind, raisin, crystal clear, passionfruit, banana, caramel, mint, cassis, pineapple, jasmine flower, elderflower, cherry

Acidity: white grape, bergamot, tartaric, juicy, sparkling

Other: candied grape, lemon candy, orange, lime and lemongrass, cassis

Enjoy!

Incredibly sweet coffee

I've brewed this coffee up two times and nailed the second brew by bringing down the temperature to 94C. My recipe is 23g, 45 second bloom with 50g of water, and then 345g total in just under 3 minutes in the Kalita 155. This was an incredibly sweet coffee, much of that sweetness lingering long after I sipped it. It was less exotic for me, but very sweet (which is delightful and delicious).

Fantastic!

While I didn’t catch all the flavor notes mentioned, this coffee was absolutely fantastic. Is it a crime to say I enjoyed it with a splash of cream?
