Kii AA — Kenya, Kirinyaga
The Kii factory sits within sight of Mt. Kenya in the Kirinyaga region, part of the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society since 1997. Around 80 smallholder farmers deliver cherry here, growing SL28, SL34, Batian, and Ruiru 11 at elevations between 1,600 and 1,800 meters.
Processing is meticulous — cherries are sorted before pulping, fermented overnight, then washed and dried on raised beds for 8 to 14 days. Kii even encourages farmers to compost the discarded coffee fruit back into fertilizer, closing the loop in a really thoughtful way.
In the cup, this one is bright and fruit-forward, with grape and golden kiwi up front, a pop of lemon zest, and the crisp sweetness of honeycrisp apple. We've loved Kenya coffees from this corner of the country before — from Rung'eto Kii to Kianjiru — and this lot fits right into that tradition of clean, vibrant Kenyan character.
A lively, fruit-driven coffee that's hard not to love.
