La Esmeralda — Colombia, Huila

A beautifully expressive washed Caturra from Pitalito, grown at 1,800 meters by Alexander Hernández on his family farm, La Esmeralda. Alexander arrived in Huila in 2007 after being displaced from his home region of Caquetá, and has since dedicated himself to cultivating exceptional specialty coffee alongside his wife and four children across 12 hectares of land.

This lot undergoes a meticulous process: cherries are handpicked, pre-fermented aerobically for 24 hours, then sealed in anaerobic tanks for 50 hours before drying on raised African beds and finishing in mechanical dryers. A final 30-day stabilization in GrainPro bags lets the flavors fully harmonize. In the cup, expect a comforting base of caramel and almond, brightened by citric acidity and delicate florals.

From the same corner of Huila that has given us some of our favorite Colombia offerings — a region we keep coming back to at Moustache Coffee Club for good reason.

A refined, layered coffee with warmth, sweetness, and just enough brightness to keep things interesting.
