Riakiberu AB — Kenya, Murang'a
This AB-grade lot comes from the Riakiberu Washing Station in Murang'a County, north of Nairobi in Kenya's Central Province. Around 700 smallholder farmers deliver their cherry here, growing on mineral-rich volcanic soils at 1,650 meters with about 1,200mm of annual rainfall. The station is part of the Kamacharia Farmers Cooperative Society, which provides members with pre-financing for school fees, farm inputs, and emergency needs.
After a 12-24 hour fermentation, the coffee is sun-dried on raised beds — a classic Kenyan washed process that lets the terroir shine. In the cup, expect bright red berries and juicy apricot, with a distinctive starfruit note and a long, clean finish. It's the kind of Kenya that reminds you why this origin has such a devoted following.
We've loved exploring Kenya's washing stations over the years — from Gathaithi and Gitutu to Kii and Kiamugumo — and Riakiberu fits right in with that lineup of bright, expressive lots.
A classic Kenyan cup with real energy and a finish that keeps going.
