Tasting Notes: Citrus, Honey, Lychee
Variety: Bourbon
Processing: Washed
Origin: Kayanza, Burundi
Producers: Salum Ramadhan
Altitude: 2000m
This washed bourbon coffee is another exceptional lot from the Buziraguhindwa Washing Station in Kayanza, Burundi. These beans were brought together at the station from small-holder farmers in the surrounding area, many of whom have less than 100 trees. To get micro-lots of high quality from so many small-holders, the washing station has an intensive cherry selection process. Cherry is hand-sorted when it arrives to remove any under-ripe or damaged beans, then the cherry is floated and skimmed to remove further imperfections. The densest beans are then sorted again by hand. It's a labor-intensive series of events, and all before processing even begins, but it turns out stellar coffees with really unique flavors.
This lot makes a super bright and sweet cup with tartness galore. We love the citrus notes and honey sweetness, as well as a stand-out lychee flavor that's unique to this coffee. It's a great mix of tropical fruit flavor and acidity that really pushes this coffee into uncharted territory - we can't think of the last time we cupped beans with a similar taste. We love finding stand-out coffees like this one, and we hope it makes a good impression on you as well!

Decent, not a fan of lighter roasts
It was a pretty good coffee, and you can taste the freshness, but I prefer a darker roast so it wasn't my favorite flavor.

Great Fresh coffee with a tart sweetness
This is a really great coffee that has an almost flavored feel to it. It's not too dark or bitter, instead it's got a ripe, tart, honey note to it that really appeals, especially with some milk.

Nice and smooth.
Very smooth, has a pleasant sweet note and some complexity without a lot of body.

Good light roasted coffee
A smooth lighter roasted coffee. I drink my coffee hot, but as it cooled slightly the sweet tropical flavor really come through. Very little to no bitterness. I would imagine this to be a very good cold brew for those who like iced coffee.
