Kathakwa AB — Kenya, Embu County

Kathakwa Factory sits on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya, part of the Kibugu Farmers Cooperative Society. More than 1,000 smallholder farmers along the Embu-Kirinyaga border deliver ripe cherry daily, and the station processes everything using Kenya's traditional disc depulpers, 24-hour wet fermentation, and a clean water soak before slow-drying on raised beds for one to two weeks.

The cup is bright and sweet, with flavors of clementine and nectarine layered over a citrus honey sweetness — the kind of lemonade-like clarity that makes Kenyan coffees so distinctive. Batian, Ruiru 11, SL28, and SL34 all contribute to that structured, clean profile.

Kenya has been a recurring favorite at Moustache Coffee Club — from Gathaithi PB to Kii AA — and Kathakwa fits right into that tradition of expressive, well-prepared Kenyan lots. This one is a standout.
