Description

Variety: Caturra, Bourbon

Processing: Washed

Crop Year: 2016

Origin: Huehuetenango, Guatemala

Producers: Octavio Hererra

Altitude: 1600-1800m

This aromatic coffee comes from a family-operated farm in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Tended by the third generation of Herreras with over 50 collective years of coffee experience, these tasty Caturra & Bourbon beans were grown and prepared in classic Guatemalan fashion. Grown in the high hills, this coffee was fully washed to remove all the fruit from the beans before being spread out on patios to sun-dry. It's not the fastest way to prepare coffee, but under Octavio's watchful eye we're sure it's the best for these particular flavors. All the work that went into this coffee becomes apparent even before you've finished brewing, with an intensely sweet floral aroma akin to a delicate perfume. That floral note establishes the flavor profile, accented by a bright lemon acidity that gives the cup a nice kick. Some light nutmeg and spice notes appear on the back end to round the flavors out and temper this coffee's sweetness. This is one incredible coffee, and we're beyond stoked that we get to send it your way!

No perfume.

Good average cup. I'd run from a perfume note but fortunately never sensed anything like that.

Very flavorful

I enjoyed this cup. I also did not detect the perfume aspects but the sweet brightness were very enjoyable.

Mild

Not a bad cup but a little bland. I have to throw an extra scoop into the grinder to get the intensity I like via pour over.

Just ok

Perfume notes were a little overwhelming. Could taste the smoothness of a well made pourover and yet I still tasted an unpleasant bitterness.

Good but light

A tad mild for my taste. Wonderful flavor though.

High quality coffee. Yet, not my favorite

This coffee is rather mild on the fruity side. Yet, it does have a very nice acidic touch to it. However, this is not an African coffee which will blow you away with it's fruity tea like qualities. This is a very enjoyable cup of coffee which is more on the traditional side. I really like it, I just prefer a fruity coffee when using the pour over method.

Outstanding.

Superb. I'd love to hear how people are prepping their coffee. As for myself, I've put this through the espresso machine and it is absolutely outstanding. I've pulled a couple of long shots especially and it a memorable cup. Haven't tried pour over, but espresso tells me more about a coffee than another methods. I don't get much perfume in the cup, only the bag. The espresso has more spice and cocoa notes. Worth nothing that I have rarely had such consistent, developed, stripey, syrupy shots. Just a phenomenal espresso bean. Ordering more.

Very Enjoyable

I'm used to very dark and somewhat bitter coffee. This particular bean was aromatic and mild and not as dark as I prefer, but the flavor was full. I would recommend it to my friends.

Very Tasty

I'm enjoying this coffee, it seems very round, hard to pull out distinctive tastes, like Jamaica Blue in that regard. I'd definitely recommend it to others. The great aspect of being a member of Moustache is that you get something different every time--fun!

Fair cup of coffee

Mostly got the perfume notes after grinding/during the brew, not as much in the taste. A little bitter at first, but a nice citrus acidity comes in to finish the cup. Still would prefer a little more of a fruity note from the coffee, but all in all this cup was pretty good.

Quite good

Excellent well-rounded flavor, tasting notes are on point. Fair amount of sweetness balanced with the lemon and spice, very little bitterness once I got the brew parameters dialed. The perfume makes an appearance during grinding and brewing, but doesn't really stick around after that. I like African fruit/tea heavy beans as much as everyone else, but this is a pleasant bit of variety. Much appreciated! Brewed 19g in an inverted Aeropress with the plunger pulled out to the 4 mark, filled to the top with ~195-200degF filtered water, med-fine grind, vigorous stir at the beginning and ~30sec in, flipped at 1:55, ~30sec plunge.

Enjoyable cup - Brew aeropress

I tried brewing 3 ways - french press, pour over and aeropress, and I found the aeropress to pull the most flavorful cup. This way pulled the spice and nutmeg to the front with a hint of perfume and lemon. When brewing via pour over, it came out light in flavor and that was adding a higher ratio of grounds. I'd gladly brew this coffee again.

Not Bad - Aeropress

Nothing really stood out for me personally. Still a good cup like every other bean I have gotten from Moustache.
