Black Currant, Chocolate, Molasses

Item information

San Rafael

Item information

Description

Variety: Caturra

Processing: Washed

Crop Year: 2017

Origin: Cauca, Colombia

Producers: Danilson Oidor

Altitude: 1900-2000m

The Inza region of Colombia is characterized by deep valleys bursting with plant life, which has earned the area the nickname 'La Tierra Adentro'. The locals growing coffee do so with particular attention to processing, and have organized a collective project to mill and test their crops and production methods. The flavors coming out of the area are pristine and distinctive among Colombian coffees. While you may be used to very fruit-forward Colombian coffees, San Rafael leans more into the rich chocolatey space, providing a cup with depth and resonance. A note of black currant contributes some tartness, and an underlying molasses-like sweetness keeps the profile reigned in and mellow. It's a smooth, refined taste that's sure to brighten your day.

Yum.

100% the kind of coffee I like. Smooth. Not acidic.

Very Nice!

Love the balance between fruit and chocolatey sweetness. Would prefer just a teensy bit more body, but I am still experimenting with brewing methods/conditions. Would buy again.

My first coffee from Moustache Coffee Club

I received my subscription to the club as a gift and was intrigued to see what it had to offer. If this selection is representative of all the coffees, then I'm going to be very pleased indeed. I'm a lighter roast fan and I love Colombian. The freshness is a big plus, too. More like this please!

First order

Prefer a bit darker. But more bite. Chocolate notes definitely came through.

Superb!

Ordinarily, I prefer a darker coffee that packs a punch. However, I was very pleased with the aroma and velvety smooth finish. Will definitely purchase more coffee like this one.

So Far, My Favorite!!!

I’m relatively new to the fine coffee world and I liked to be able to say that I really enjoyed the berry cobbler notes, but unfortunately I’m not quite there yet :):) But what I can say about this coffee is that I absolutely love it and I am definitely purchasing more! Love the smoothness and the flavor! Very nice! I too have this coffee reserved for my next 3 shipments! Yay!!!

Terrific coffee: flavor, body, and balance

This is a wonderful coffee. It shows great balance of sweetness, acid, and body. Not too light, not too heavy and no real afterbite.

We really enjoyed it

Nothing much to add. It was tasty, smelled great, and we both enjoyed it.

Delicious

Working on refining my coffee palate. We brew on a Chemex and this coffee was wonderful. I can't say I was able to detect the different notes of molasses and chocolate, but I will say it was incredibly smooth.

Yum

I would have liked a little more chocolate taste, but this is a delicious coffee as is. I enjoyed it as an espresso and americano. My fiancee liked it as a latte and cappuccino. I would definitely purchase this again.

We liked it!

Very fresh, definite chocolate undertones, a hint of fruit, slight acidity. Not quite as dark as we like, but thoroughly enjoyable.

First Order

What a great first experience! Shipment was punctual (a day early, actually) and the tasting notes are spot on. I'm tempted to add this to the queue, but it's literally my first order, so I'll resist the temptation... For now...

Tasty, but almost too smooth

This is a coffee that I wouldn't mind having again, but it is almost a little too smooth for my liking.

Timorous and Tantalizing

Supremely delicate--almost too much so for my taste buds--and delicious. This won't ever be my go-to flavor profile, but it does serve admirably as a palette trainer/reset. Stretch those tasting muscles and reach for the ephemera on this one.

Enjoyed This Coffee

I tend to prefer coffees with a more robust flavor so I was not surprised I liked this one.

Colombian done right

This coffee had the darkness and nuttiness I love in a Colombian without going over the top. A really solid pick - one of my MCC faves.
